Meerut: Khurja Dehat police, along with the SWAT team in Bulandshahr district, have arrested a 32-year-old woman for allegedly murdering a 65-year-old woman after posing as a door-to-door sanitary pad vendor to identify vulnerable targets, officials said.
The elderly woman, Vimla Devi, lived with her husband, a farmer, and was targeted by Mamta Devi for
robbery on April 11. The accused used the guise of a sanitary pad seller to conduct reconnaissance in residential areas.
“Investigation revealed that Mamta targeted Vimla Devi for robbery. When the victim resisted, the situation turned fatal. She strangled her with a rope and fled with jewellery and cash,” said Antriksh Jain, SP (Rural).
Police said the accused was later tracked down and arrested. Stolen items, including earrings, anklets and Rs 6,500 in cash, have been seized from her possession.
Mamta is currently in police custody, and further legal proceedings are underway.
